बिनाले के लिए धन जुटाने के लिए 40 कलाकारों ने अपनी कलाकृतियां नीलामी के लिये दान दी

मुंबई में 7 अप्रैल को होगी नीलामी

कोच्चि, 4 अप्रैल: भारत में अगले सप्ताह के प्रारंभ में कला की बड़ी नीलामी होने जा रही है। अंतरराष्ट्रीय रूप से ख्याति प्राप्त 40 भारतीय कलाकारों ने कोच्चि बिनाले फाउंडेशन (केबीएफ) के लिए धन राशि जुटाने के लिए 7 अप्रैल को मुबई में होने वाली नीलामी के लिए अपनी कलाकृतियां दान दी है। यह नीलामी कला की अब तक की सबसे बड़ी नीलामियों में से एक होगी।

यह नीलामी धन राशि जुटाने के लिए कोच्चि बिनाले फाउंडेशन के प्रयासों के तहत की जा रही है। अधिकारियों के अनुसार, नीलामी से प्राप्त धन राशि से बिनाले को आत्मनिर्भर बनाने में मदद मिलेगी और इससे संगठनात्मक बाधाओं को भी काफी हद तक दूर करने में मदद मिलेगी।

यह नीलामी, सैफ्रनआर्ट के सहयोग से 7 अप्रैल को आयोजित की जाएगी। नीलामी की शुरुआत 7 अप्रैल को मुम्बई के ताज लैंड एंड में शाम साढ़े छह बजे एक पूर्वावलोकन के साथ होगी, उसके बाद 7 बजे पंजीकरण होगा और उसके बाद लाइव नीलामी की जाएगी।

नीलामी की बोली में अधिक लोगों के भाग लेने के लिए, आयोजकों ने नीलामी को ऑनलाइन उपलब्ध कराया है। जो लोग नीलामी स्थल पर उपस्थित नहीं हो सकते हैं वे सैफ्रनआर्ट वेबसाइट या फोन के माध्यम से ऑनलाइन बोली लगा सकते हैं। ऑनलाइन नीलामी अभी http://www.saffronart.com/auctions/Kochi-Muziris-Biennale-Fundraiser-Auction- 2015-3742 पर खुली है और लाइव नीलामी पूरी हो जाने के बाद बंद होगी। आयोजकों ने यह भी कहा है कि खरीदारों को किसी भी कलाकृति पर कोई प्रीमियम नहीं दिया जाएगा।

कोच्चि बिनाले फाउंडेशन ने कोच्चि - मुजिरिस बिनाले के दो बहुप्रशंसित संस्करणों का सफलतापूर्वक आयोजन किया है जिसमें करीब 10 लाख दर्शकों ने अपनी उपस्थिति दर्ज करायी। हालांकि फाउंडेशन को इसके लिए केरल सरकार से वित्तीय सहायता मिल रही है, लेकिन वित्तीय मदद में देर होने के कारण संगठन को बिनाले के आयोजन में समस्या आयी।

केबीएफ के संस्थापक - अध्यक्ष बोस कृष्णमाचारी ने कहा, ‘‘विभिन्न स्रोतों से वित्तीय मदद मिलने के बावजूद, बिनाले के आगामी संस्करणों के लिए पर्याप्त और समय पर धन हासिल करना सबसे बड़ी चुनौती बनी हुई है।’’ उन्होंने कहा, भारत के पहले बिनाले को लंबे समय तक कायम रखने के लिए 40 कलाकारों ने धन जुटाने के लिए अपनी कलाकृतियों का उदारता पूर्वक दान दे दिया।’’

केबीएफ के सह संस्थापक और सचिव रियास कोमू ने कहा, ‘‘7 अप्रैल को होने वाली नीलामी स्वयं के द्वारा धन जुटाने की पहल है जहां कलाकार, कलाकारों की कल्पना और उनके दिशा निर्देष में क्यूरेट किये गये दुनिया के एकमात्र बिनाले को समर्थन देने के लिए एक साथ आए हैं।’’ 

मुम्बई में भी रहने वाले कोमू ने कहा, ‘‘इस पहल का फाउंडेशन के कार्यों पर सीधा प्रभाव पड़ेगा और उससे बिनाले को कायम रखने में मदद मिलेगी।’’

7 अप्रैल को नीलामी में भाग लेने वाले कलाकारों में ए. रामचंद्रन, अबीर करमारकर, आदित्य पांडेय, अनीता दुबे, अंजू डोडिया, अर्पिता सिंह, अतुल डोडिया, बैजू पार्थन, ध्रुवी आचार्य, गीगी स्कारिया, गुलाम मोहम्मद शेख, हेमा उपाध्याय, सी. जी. कृष्णन, के. जी. सुब्रामण्यन, के. पी. रेजी, एल. एन. तल्लुर, मनीष नई, माधवी पारेख, मनीषा पारेख, मनु पारेख, मिथु सेन, नवजोत अल्ताफ, निखिल चोपड़ा, एन. एस. हर्षा, प्राजक्ता पलव, पी. एस. जलजा, एन. पुश्पमाला, रणबीर कलेका, रतीश टी., रीना सैनी कलात, रेखा रोडविट्टिया, रोहिणी देवाषर, सहेज राहल, सुधीर पटवर्धन, सुरेन्द्रन नायर, ठुकराल एवं टागरा, टी. वी. संतोष, वरूनिका सराफ,

विवान सुंदरम और विवेक विलासिनी शामिल हैं।

जवजोत अल्ताफ, जिनकी कलाकृति ‘मैरी वान्ट्स टू रीड ए बुक’ केएमबी’14 में शामिल थी, का मानना है कि बिनाले कलाकारों के द्वारा की गयी एक पहल है और इसलिए कलाकारों को लोगों के लाभ के लिए दुनिया भर के समकालीन कला को यहां लाने के लिए सामूहिक रूप से काम करना चाहिए।

नीलामी के लिए अपनी मूर्ति ‘सिरहा’ को दान करने वाले मुम्बई के कलाकार ने कहा, ‘‘मैं बिनाले जैसी गतिविधि का समर्थन करना चाहता हूं ताकि आने वाले वर्षों में भी यह जारी रहे। कोच्चि - मुजिरिस बिनाले के दोनों संस्करणों के आयोजन के लिए अस्थायी संरचनाओं का निर्माण करने की बजाय मौजूदा खाली जगहों का इस्तेमाल करने से मैं काफी प्रभावित हुआ क्योंकि अस्थायी निर्माण करने पर आयोजन के समाप्त होने के बाद वह निर्माण बेकार हो जाता। आयोजन में इन स्थानों के मालिकों और स्थानीय लोगों को शामिल करने का यह एक अच्छा तरीका है।’’ 

National Museum selected for Global Museum Leaders Colloquium in New York

New Delhi, Mar 31 : The National Museum, which has transitioned from a slumbering institution to a place throbbing with events and footfalls, has been selected to participate in the  Second Global Museum Leaders Colloquium (GMLC) to be held in New York next month.

The April 13–23 Colloquium, to be hosted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, will witness an assemblage of 15 international museum leaders who are to deliberate on measures to broaden international dialogue about museum management. 

Dr. Venu V., the Director General of National Museum who has launched a slew of trailblazing initiatives to reinvigorate the 65-year-old institution, will represent it at the annual colloquium. The 14 other museum leaders selected for the brainstorming meet are from the UK,  China, Colombia, New Zealand, Benin, Cameroon, Iran, Nigeria, Peru, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines and Vietnam.

The list of the participants was announced recently by Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This year’s GMLC participants include directors of national, private and academic museums, which together account for an annual attendance of more than five million visitors and collections of nearly six million objects.

The 11-day GMLC is expected to provide a 360-degree view of current museum practices worldwide, placing a strong emphasis on institutional leadership and strategic problem solving.

Dr Venu said the GMLC, though barely in its second edition, has come to be recognized as a significant international platform for museum leaders and administrators to discuss and strategise measures to reinvigorate museums.

“The challenge for the museologists and museum administrators is to hammer out new strategies that would increase footfalls at museums and make them a focal point in the spectrum of culture and art,” he said, adding: “There is a commonality in challenges for museums across the globe.”    

Dr Venu, who assumed charge of the museum in December 2013, has been instrumental in giving a makeover to the institution by holding of a slew of new exhibitions and launching new initiatives.

Over the past two years, it has hosted eight exhibitions as compared to six in the entire decade before 2012. In 2014, it held one of the biggest ever exhibitions of Indian art; titled 'The Body in Indian Art', showcasing around 300 artefacts collected from museums and private collectors across the country. It also showcased Kerala’s Pattanam artefacts on its maritime links with the ancient world.  In addition, it has also reopened four galleries, including Alamkara (jewellery galley), which were shuttered for years.

To Dr Venu also goes the credit of launching the Outreach Department and Volunteer Guide Scheme, under which trained volunteers lead visitors on informed tours of the museum. The initiatives have made visiting the museum a lively and friendly experience, a fact testified by recent visitors to the museum.
